If someone asks me what the best thing I have heard about Mary, mother of Jesus is, I repeat the words of Elizabeth: “Blessed is she who believed that there would be a fulfillment of what was spoken to her by the Lord”. She believed God. She believed every word she read in the Scripture. Therefore, she did not have any problem in believing when the angel said she has been chosen to be the mother of the Messiah. That did not mean that she was not aware of the problems she would have to face by saying “yes” to God. What she meant by saying “yes” was that she knew that God in His ultimate wisdom and plan, would handle whatever situation she has to face. It was that faith what made her blessed.
When you know that your problems will be handled by God, you are free to help others in their needs. Mary had to convince her parents, her fiance, her neighbours and friends. She did not know how they would take the news and how they would react. She was aware of the law. But, she was not stressed or frustrated. Her faith kept her in peace. She was so free to go and help her cousin in her need forgetting her problems. That peace and freedom were signs of her blessedness.
If we can keep on remembering and praising God for what He had done in our personal lives, just as our Mother Mary did and the Psalm explains, we can be blessed too.
