Why couldn’t the chief priest and the other members of the Sanhedrin see even now, that there is the hand of God on these people? Why couldn’t they accept even now that Jesus is the Messiah they were waiting for and preached of? The only possible answer is they did not care about the Messiah or even about God. They were using the name of God for their benefit and to receive honour from the people. They did not allow even God to get in their way.
Can we think of any one or a group of people like this in our days, who forget the very same people who they say they serve and turn everything upside down only to keep their place of power safe? Have we seen any group of people who conspire against and betray the very same people they ought to safeguard in order to safeguard their positions? Can you think of an incident where you acted like that - betraying purpose of your life for your personal benefit? Have we been bold enough to be faithful to the purpose entrusted by God, even in the midst of threats from others?
