When a war is won, it is a normal practice to honour the forces who fought the war, who conducted the war, who died in the war and who made different kinds of sacrifices while fighting the war. According to that practice, it is right and just to honour Mother Mary who fought the war against sin with Jesus from the beginning, on the day we celebrated the victory.
Mother Mary is the first to receive the Holy Spirit after we lost the Holy Spirit due to disobedience. She was the first to be full of grace. She was the person who was kept pure from inception by the Lord, in order to plant the seed of His Son, the Holy One, in her womb. She was the ready-made gate of heaven and the ladder for us to climb and enter, as the Psalm reminds us. We are proud and fortunate to say “She is my mother too.”
As Mary was destined to be the mother of Jesus, she was destined to be our mother too. Having sacrificed everything he had: his freedom, his reputation, his dignity and even his clothes at the Cross, Jesus was hanging on to one thing without giving away and without allowing anyone to take away. That was his beloved mother. He kept her to the last minute in order to give her to us as our mother, the Mother of the Church.
She was there when the Church received the Holy Spirit, ie when the Church was born; she was there when the disciples and the followers were persecuted and she is still with us to help us, encourage us and empower us in every attempt we take towards heaven - her Son, her Spouse and our Father.
