Today, during the Holy Mass, we hear two farewell speeches. One is from Paul and the other is from Jesus. Having finished his work among the gentiles, Paul was getting ready to go back to Jerusalem, to be there for the feast of Pentecost. Jesus was getting ready to go to the Cross in order to finish his mission in this world. In one way or the other, both are talking about glorifying God.
The best and the only way to glorify God is to fulfill the purpose for which He sent us into this world. Paul declared that he is not responsible for anyone who did not follow God, because he has done everything he could do to introduce Jesus, the Holy Spirit and God into their lives. Jesus was handing over all the people back to the Father, whom He had given to his care and pray that they be one with him and the Father.
If all of us can face death like them, happily and satisfied with what we did to fulfill the Father’s wish for us, we too can claim the glory in heaven while glorifying God the Father in our deathbed. Let us long for the grace and help from the Holy Spirit for that.
